Short Synopsis: Due to a family feud when the children were little, Daniel and Summer were forced to stay away from each other. But years later, the two become attracted to each other, but things become deadly, after a sudden outbreak of a disease that turns humans into walking zombies.

My Thoughts: I'm not usually one for zombie tales, but this novel kept me interested, and I loved that it has a modern feel of Romeo and Juliet with a twist of zombies in the mix.
In a small town, two families who live across the street from each other, are just like your ordinary family members. One family, with a small girl, and the other family with a boy. One day at the boy's birthday party, the two children get into an argument that gets blown out of proportion from both sides of the family.
As both families defend their children, things become worse, and the children are forced to never intervene with each other. Years pass, and the two children grow up, and both Summer and Daniel, start to become attracted to one another.
But as their relationship starts to take off, an outbreak of deformed humans start appearing around the neighborhood. While coming home from school one day, Daniel gets attacked from one of the zombies roaming the neighborhood. On top of keeping their relationship a secret from their parents, Summer now hides Daniel from the government agents in charge of gathering the zombies. Will their connection and love for each other overcome the deformity and what Daniel has now become?

A very interesting read. I liked how we get to see Daniel and Summer's relationship develop and grow into something, rather than having the relationship be rushed right in. I also liked how the zombie description wasn't too grotesque and bloody, as how most zombies are described.
I also liked reading about Daniel's point of view and reading about Summer's point of view as well, rather than the story being one sided. The story consisted of mostly a narrative voice which I wasn't too used to, but seemed fitting for this novel.
I enjoyed reading about the chemistry between Daniel and Summer and how each was afraid of approaching the other. I also loved how Sobolik took a classic love story and made his own twist to the plot which made the novel even more unique. The only thing I wasn't too fond of was the reason of why Daniel and Summer had split up being friends when they were children, and felt that if they were going to be forced to split up, that it should have been a bit more serious situation. In general, an entertaining read, that holds the reader's attention.

Would I recommend this book: Yes

Rating: I give this book a 3.5/5
