I've had a few DNFs this week. I've tried really hard to complete these novels, but when they turned toward the paranormal side, which I usually tend to love, I was sorely disappointed, and sadly, I couldn't complete them. First up was:

I absolutely loved everything about this novel... In the beginning. I loved how there was a young girl, who was shipped off to boarding school, I loved how she was ostracized from everyone because of her background and how she was connected to the school. I enjoyed reading about her secret crush to the boy that despised her, and I enjoyed reading about the mystery of it all. But unfortunately, when it turned toward the supernatural aspect of it all, I couldn't quite get through it. I didn't like the style writing, and it seemed really confusing once the author headed out towards the paranormal aspect of it all.
Second was: Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

Before I started this blog and when this book first came out, I remember I tried to read this novel, but unfortunately, I couldn't hack it. And then I saw the latest book in this series, so I decided to give it a retry. Again, I loved everything about this novel. I loved how there was a new girl, and how the main character was trying to get involved with her, even though no one else in school wanted anything to do with her. But as soon as the paranormal aspect was involved, it became really hard to finish. There was no real explanation on how either character could hear each other's thoughts, or why the girl was so special. And the characters weren't really all that memorable either. Try as I might, I just couldn't take in the rest of the novel.
And Lastly, was: Twisted by Gena Showalter

I read the first two novels in this series and absolutely loved it. I loved Aden's character and how he was haunted with all those souls, and how he was struggling with them. I also enjoyed reading about the other characters, Riley and Mary Ann, and the relationship that they had. A major problem that I had with this novel was that it was published so far off from the last sequel that I'd practically forgotten what the story line was. I was also sorely disappointed with the fact that it turned towards the vampiric genre, which I usually tend to love to read, and really disliked how the author changed it to focus mainly on Victoria and how she was related to Dracula, a.k.a, Vlad The Implaler. And since I couldn't finish this novel, I unfortunately don't think I'd be able to continue on with this series.
In conclusion, it was sad to say that though some of these novels are really popular, it just didn't float my boat. Sometimes taking it to the paranormal world, or over doing it, might be a wrong move to some readers, and
