Short Synopsis: Sidney, a guardian is caught in a predicament as she has been charged with being a spy, and tampering with military weapons and is imprisoned on a naval ship and set for execution. She befriends Captain Sam Waterhouse and the two embark on a paranormal journey, fighting against dark forces.
My Thoughts: Interesting plot, some potential, but there are some things that bothered me through out the process.
Sidney is not your average person. She is a guardian who has been caught in an attempt to stop dark forces. She becomes imprisoned on a naval ship and is set for an execution. As Sidney struggles with the rules and regulations of military life, she begins to befriend and fall for the captain of the ship, Sam Waterhouse.
As Sam gets to get to know Sidney better, he starts to figure out that things aren't always what they seem, and those whom he used to trust have now been deemed questionable. As Sidney and Sam team together to stop those who mean harm, Sam also discovers a world filled with possibility and romance.
An interesting plot filled with fascinating characters. But there were a few points in the book that really bothered me. The tone of voice seemed excruciatingly slow for me and by that point, made it really difficult for me to complete. It also seemed a bit odd to me that a prisoner set for execution had a lot of free reign on the ship and was able to grant so many requests. The relationship between Sidney and Sam also seemed really fast, considering they'd only been together for a couple weeks. It also seemed a bit confusing about the whole mission concerning the crystals, and what they were actually used for and why Madame wanted them and how Madame had so much power over everybody. Overall, it was an okay read, but there could have been some more potential.
Would I recommend this book: Maybe
Rating: I give this book a 2/5.
