Short Synopsis: Popular and pretty Elizabeth Valchar just turned eighteen and is celebrating with her closest friends on her father's boat. She wakes up in the middle of a night to a thumping sound and finds out that it is herself in the water. Elizabeth must piece together the puzzles of the mystery before any more harm comes to her friends.
My Thoughts: An interesting take on the spiritual world, and I loved the fact that it also had a bit of mystery involved too.
Elizabeth Valchar has always been the center of attention for everything. Popular, and pretty, and turning eighteen, Liz and her closest friends gather for a party on her father's boat. Liz wakes up in the middle of the night at the boat to a thumping sound. Annoyed at the noise, Liz goes outside to check out the cause of the noise.
Liz is horrified to find her body face down in the water. She screams and tries to call for help, but no one can hear her. Except one boy. Alex Berg. But the thing is, Alex Berg has been dead for about a year now, and Liz has no idea what to do.
Together, Liz and Alex try to put together the pieces of Liz's experiences leading up to the final day of Liz's horrible accident. Was Liz's death really an accident, or was it murder? What was troubling Liz the past couple weeks and what secrets were Liz and her friends keeping? As the two delve further into Liz's past life, both Alex and Liz discover that not everyone is what they seem to be.
I really liked the story plot and the fact that it was also a mystery as well as a paranormal novel. The main characters, Liz and Alex were interesting too. We discover that Liz isn't just the popular and pretty girl at high school. That even popular kids at school have their own dark secrets and that not everything is great on the outside as people believe them to be.
The main story and point of view is from Liz's reactions, but we also do get a glimpse of Alex's past life as well. It would have been nice to read a little bit more about Alex's life as it was a crucial turning point in Liz's. The main points about this novel was all about secrecy and relationships.
It was interesting to read what really happened to Liz and there were a lot of flashbacks that while at the time was confusing, really pieces the puzzles together. The one character that I felt was really heartless in the end was Liz's sister and best friend, and felt no sympathy for her afterwords. The novel was really lengthy and though I understand why, about two thirds into the novel, I felt that at least some of it could have been edited out as well. In general, it was an entertaining read, and an interesting thriller of pointing fingers and trying to find the real killer.
Would I recommend this book: Sure
Rating: I give this book a 3.5/5.
