Review: Cycles by Lois D. Brown

E-book: Cycles by Lois D. Brown
Pages: 202
Genre: Young Adult
Source: Sent from author

Short Synopsis: Renee has always felt she was a bit different than other people. After experiencing an accident trying to get away from burglars, Renee is thrust into a world, far more than she bargained for.

My Thoughts: An interesting plot, but not what I was expecting it to turn out.

Renee has always had a simple life, with parents who loved her, but wasn't always there due to work issues, and a best friend. Everything was normal, and life couldn't be better. But everything changed one day, when Renee is at her neighbor's barn, taking care of their horse, Mercury.
While taking care of Mercury, Renee is interrupted by burglars, and experiences an accident. When Renee comes to, she is in far more than she anticipated. With her best friend Sam, she finds out that she has a rare blood that could help save lives, and that she is a Cycle, an extremely rare individual who has the ability to turn back into a baby, and relive life once again. And if things weren't bad enough, Renee is captured by the very people who she thought were her friends, to be studied further by scientists.

Not quite what I was expecting. The plot was pretty interesting, but it was also filled with a lot of Genetic language which kind of put me off and confused me. Being the hopeless romantic that I am, I was a bit more focused on the relationship between Sam and Renee. I was a bit disappointed that not much happened between them, though it was entertaining to read how jealous Renee became when Sam started to get a little more attention.
It was also interesting to read how some of the characters weren't really who they said they were, and how they played a part in Renee's life. The whole story kind of reminded me a bit like 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,' but still entertaining. Overall, an okay read, but I just kind of wished there wasn't as much scientific explanation involved.

Would I recommend this book: Sure

Rating: I give this book a 3/5.
